For several years the Lincoln Amazing Grace Seventh-Day Adventist church has been praying that God would make them a light in the community. On Wednesdays when members gathered for prayer meeting, they often prayed for their town and for opportunities to share God’s love. But they didn’t expect God to answer so dramatically.
Then the church's prayer team felt led to host a community prayer breakfast for city and community leaders. A friendship between the church pastor and the new city mayor grew out of that first prayer breakfast. A year later, the mayor asked if the church would be willing to lead out in the National Day of Prayer for the city.
Answers to prayer began quickly piling up as the prayer team prayed and began to make connections in the community. Non-Adventist pastors, community leaders, and prayer warriors from other churches all joined in the effort. A day of prayer is a wonderful way to draw people from your town together to seek God. It can be simple or elaborate, as long as the focus is on God and praying for His will for the community. Days of prayer can also be held for your conference, with several local Adventist churches, at the beginning of a school year, or for a special event.
